David Beatson (Ongoing)
David Beatson first visited Cornwall over 25 years ago and fell in love with the quaint harbours, narrow streets, and evocative scenery which provides a romantic escape from day to day life in Sheffield, South Yorkshire where he lives.
Being a stone’s throw away from the Derbyshire border and close to the striking countryside of the Peak District the rolling hills and crags of the interior also influence his abstract landscape art, along with the dramatic moorland and breath-taking countryside. ‘I enjoy the flexibility and consistency of oils to create my artwork. My technique provides a free flowing smooth texture with thick layers of paint to build depth. Using spontaneous expressive strokes with a rich palette of striking colour I aim to capture the fleeting effects of light and movement in the sea and sky. I attempt to apply an abstract feel to my paintings whose subject matter may not be clearly distinguishable yet evoke memories and thoughts of a specific place or experience’.
