RUTH TAYLOR

Ruth Taylor trained at Eastbourne College of Art and West Surrey College of Art & Design where she gained a degree in Printed Textiles. Having settled on the Surrey/Hampshire border Ruth worked with fabric for some years before returning to painting and is a regular exhibitor at Surrey Artists Open Studios, alongside supplying considered outlets Nationwide.

Ruth’s training as a textile designer is evident in her work. She is inspired as much by colour and pattern as by the English landscape. Working in oils she applies paint directly to the surface, moving it around with brushes, combs and her hands. Her atmospheric paintings capture the changing seasons and the effect of the weather on the land. Her work takes the journey from the open heathland through the South Downs where she spent her childhood, down to the coastline of Cornwall.
